Czar Dancel is a Manila-based freelance photographer specializing in news, politics, disasters, and sports photography.
He currently works as a photo correspondent for The Manila Bulletin, one of the Philippines’ leading newspapers, covering a wide range of assignments from current events, disasters, to social issues. In 2017, his works were rated as among the newspaper’s top photos of the year.
He also contributes for wire news agency Reuters, where he served as a photo correspondent for two years since 2015, covering general assignments from politics including the 2015 APEC Summit and current events such as the Philippines’ War on Drugs. Dancel’s work in the brutal anti-drug campaign was featured in Reuters’ Wider Image blog: Images and story in 2016.
His professional career started in 2012 after joining Next Pictures Pressphoto Agency (NPPA Images), a Philippine-based news photo agency, where he served as a correspondent until 2015. It was in NPPA where Dancel developed his familiarity with a diverse range of assignments including sports, lifestyle, entertainment, and corporate assignments.
He then joined the Sports Interactive Network Philippines (Spin.ph) in 2015 as a sports photo correspondent, grinding daily coverage to hone the expertise in indoor and outdoor sports photography.
Dancel is a nursing graduate but chose to pursue his passion for photography. He now develops his skill in videography in his goal to become a multimedia journalist.
